Huawei, a Chinese telecommunications company, reported that its net profit for 2023 more than doubled, reaching 87 billion yuan. This significant increase was attributed to a 9.6% year-on-year revenue growth, totaling 704.2 billion yuan. Huawei also cited higher quality operations and sales of certain businesses as contributing factors to its profitability. Despite restrictions imposed by the U.S. in 2019, Huawei’s comeback in the smartphone market was evident with the release of the Mate 60 Pro in China, which offered advanced 5G download speeds due to an improved semiconductor chip. In 2022, Huawei’s revenue increased by 0.9% to 642.3 billion yuan as the company worked to stabilize its business following a sales plunge of over 28% in 2021. However, net profit for 2022 fell significantly by 69%, marking the largest drop on record. Huawei attributed this decrease to factors such as rising commodity prices, China’s pandemic controls, and increased research and development spend. Despite these challenges, Huawei’s intelligent automobile solutions business experienced remarkable growth, with revenue increasing by 128.1% to 4.7 billion yuan. The company provides software and other technology to car companies and has partnered with an automaker for the Aito electric car brand.

Huawei’s consumer business saw a 17.3% year-on-year revenue growth in 2023, reaching 251.5 billion yuan. However, its Information and Communications Technology (ICT) segment remained the largest revenue driver, generating 362 billion yuan in revenue in 2023, up 2.3% from the previous year. Additionally, Huawei’s cloud revenue also saw significant growth, increasing by nearly 22% to 55.3 billion yuan in 2023. Overall, Huawei’s diverse business segments contributed to its strong financial performance in 2023, with the company demonstrating its resilience and ability to adapt to changing market conditions.
