Alan Ritchson recently opened up for the first time about being sexually assaulted during his time as a model before becoming an actor. The “Reacher” star shared with The Hollywood Reporter that he was assaulted by a “very famous photographer” in Los Angeles during a nude photoshoot. Despite being one of the highest-paid models at the agency, Ritchson quit modeling after the incident and never looked back.

Ritchson recounted storming into his agency after the assault and confronting them for sending him to the photographer. He described the agent’s nonchalant response and admission that the photographer “can get a little aggressive.” Despite the trauma from the assault, Ritchson found acting at the same time as he quit modeling, which made the transition easier for him. He appeared on “American Idol” before landing various TV roles.

While Ritchson did not name the photographer from his last shoot, he did identify another, accusing fashion photographer Mario Testino of inappropriate touching during a Paris Fashion Week dinner in 2014. Allegedly, Testino tried to rub Ritchson’s crotch under the table and later offered him the chance to land a “Vogue” cover as a bribe. Testino was accused of sexual harassment in 2018 by multiple models and assistants.

Ritchson shared that the assault left scars on him and led to an existential crisis and a suicide attempt in 2019. Despite the challenges he faced as a model, Ritchson has found success in his acting career, most notably as the lead in “Reacher.” He acknowledged the unfairness faced by women in similar situations and expressed his empathy for them, recognizing the terrifying experiences they endure without the option of a physical altercation to defend themselves.

Reflecting on his modeling days, Ritchson described the “terrible line” he had to toe to keep his job and the constant fear of being sexually assaulted. He emphasized the importance of understanding and empathy for women who face similar challenges, noting that many do not have the option of physical confrontation to protect themselves in unsafe situations. He encouraged others to seek help from organizations like RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Online Hotline or the National Sexual Violence Resource Center for support and resources.
