Andrew Magee, a 41-year-old man from Widnes in Cheshire, was trusted by a family to join them on a camping holiday. However, when the parents fell asleep, Magee took advantage of the situation and led their 15-year-old daughter to a tent where he raped her. The group had been socialising around a campfire before everyone retired for the night, leaving Magee and the victim alone. Magee had been making inappropriate compliments towards the teenager throughout the night, and the assault began when he placed his hand on her knee and led her to a tent where he raped and sexually assaulted her while her family slept nearby. The victim was too scared to speak out at the scene but later informed her father about the incident.

The victim’s father confronted Magee about the assault through Facebook, where Magee admitted to having sex with the victim at the campsite. The incident was reported to the police, leading to Magee being charged with three counts of rape and one count of sexually assaulting by penetration. Magee was sentenced to 11 years in prison at Chester Crown Court on March 25 and was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and required to sign the sex offenders register for life. Detective Sergeant Anthony Evans noted that Magee was a trusted family friend who knowingly raped a 15-year-old girl, causing devastating consequences for the victim and her family. Despite the trauma, the victim’s courage in speaking out led to Magee facing the consequences of his actions, providing some closure for the victim.
