The Israeli military discovered a cache of weapons hidden inside Gaza’s largest hospital, al Shifa Hospital, after a gun battle with Hamas terrorists. The weapons were found in various locations in the hospital, including the MRI center, bathrooms, and the maternity ward. The Israeli troops found mortars, ammunition, rifles, grenades, and other Hamas equipment concealed in lockers, floors, ceilings, and bathrooms at the hospital. The Nahal Brigade reconnaissance team led the raid on the hospital, eliminating several gunmen inside the facility and seizing a significant amount of weapons.

Lt. Col. Noor Bobalil, the Nahal patrol commander, revealed that his unit had been operating inside al Shifa Hospital for three days. The IDF claimed to have killed around 170 terrorists in the hospital and arrested 800 others. However, the World Health Organization and the United Nations have condemned the fighting in hospitals, as doctors are struggling to care for patients amidst the ongoing battles. The Hamas-run ministry of health and media office have disputed the claims, stating that many of those killed were wounded patients or refugees sheltering in the hospital.

In a separate incident, the IDF and the Shin Bet intelligence agency thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large weapons cache into the West Bank. The weapons seized included explosives, anti-tank landmines, grenade launchers, missiles, rockets, assault rifles, and handguns. Shin Bet officials attributed the weapons to Iran’s Unit 4,000, a special operations division of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, with the intention of launching attacks against Israel. They also implicated senior Fatah official Munir Makdah, residing in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, in the smuggling operation. Intelligence officers are now working with the IDF to locate additional Iranian weapons believed to have been smuggled into the West Bank.

The discovery of weapons in al Shifa Hospital and the thwarting of the weapons smuggling operation into the West Bank have raised concerns about the extent of Hamas terrorist activity and Iran’s involvement in arming militant groups against Israel. The IDF’s efforts to secure these weapons and dismantle terrorist networks demonstrate the ongoing security threats faced by Israel. The involvement of senior Fatah officials in smuggling operations underscores the complexity of the situation in the region and the need for continued vigilance and security measures to prevent further violence and attacks against Israel.

The seizure of a substantial amount of weapons intended for attacks against Israel highlights the ongoing conflict between militant groups in Gaza and the Israeli military. The discovery of weapons hidden in a hospital, a supposedly neutral zone, also raises ethical concerns about the use of medical facilities for military purposes. The international condemnation of the fighting in hospitals underscores the need to protect civilians, doctors, and patients from the repercussions of armed conflict. The IDF’s actions to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent weapons smuggling demonstrate Israel’s commitment to maintaining security and stability in the region despite ongoing threats.
