Peacock, the streaming platform owned by NBCUniversal, is increasing its subscription prices for both monthly and annual plans starting this summer. The price hikes will be as follows: $8 per month for Peacock Premium and $14 a month for Peacock Premium Plus, with both experiencing a $2 increase. Annual plans will also see a significant bump from $60 per year to $80 for Premium, and from $120 to $140 a year for Premium Plus. Existing subscribers will experience these changes starting on Aug. 17.

The decision to raise prices aligns with the 2024 Summer Olympics being broadcast live on the platform from Paris, with the games running from July 26 to Aug. 11. To enhance the viewing experience during this time, Peacock is offering features such as watch parties with host Alex Cooper, an interactive tool called Peacock Live Actions, and multiview that allows for four simultaneous views. Additionally, the platform will air the NFL’s Eagles vs. Packers game live from São Paulo.

While other major streaming services increased their prices in 2023, including Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu, Paramount Plus, Starz, and Apple TV Plus, Peacock is the first to do so this year among mainstream platforms. This comes after a previous price hike in July of last year, where monthly rates for Peacock Premium went from $5 to $6, and Peacock Premium Plus went from $10 to $12. Annual subscriptions also saw a rise, with the basic premium plan increasing from $50 to $60, and the more expensive subscription jumping from $100 to $120.

Peacock still offers a free, ad-supported tier, but new accounts are not eligible for this option. Existing subscribers have the ability to downgrade their plans if desired. Additionally, individuals with Xfinity internet or Instacart Plus may qualify for free Peacock Premium as part of certain promotions. In conclusion, Peacock’s subscription plans are increasing in price for new and existing customers, with changes taking effect this summer. The decision to raise prices coincides with live coverage of the 2024 Summer Olympics on the platform and aims to enhance the viewing experience with additional features. Despite the price increase, there is still a free, ad-supported tier available, and certain individuals may qualify for free Peacock Premium through specific promotions.
