Ukraine successfully shot down 26 out of 28 Shahed-type drones launched by Russia overnight on March 28. These drones were launched from the Kursk region and Cape Chauda in occupied Crimea. In addition to the drones, Russian forces also targeted Ukraine with three X-22 cruise missiles, an X-31P anti-radar missile launched from the Black Sea, and an S-300 anti-aircraft guided missile. While it is unclear whether these missiles were intercepted, the Ukrainian Air Force engaged its anti-aircraft missile units and mobile fire units to repel the aerial assault. The attack drones were downed over various oblasts, including Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia. Governor Serhii Lysak of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast reported that certain areas, such as Nikopol district, came under heavy artillery and drone attack resulting in casualties and property damage.

Following the reports of Russian troops using Zircon ballistic missiles in an attack on Kyiv on March 25, the Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson, Ilia Yevlash, stated that Ukraine has the capability to down Zircon hypersonic missiles using Patriot and SAMP/T systems. Researchers are currently examining the debris from the attacks to determine the type of missile that was launched. Despite the increase in sophisticated missile attacks from Russia, Ukraine remains resolute in its defense strategies and continues to enhance its capabilities to counter such threats. The ability to intercept and neutralize advanced missile systems is crucial in safeguarding Ukrainian airspace and ensuring the protection of its population.
