Former Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney, who previously voted to impeach former President Trump, has now found common ground with him as they both oppose President Biden’s decision to withhold aid from Israel. Cheney stated that withholding aid from America’s closest ally in the Middle East is “wrong and dangerous” and would mean victory for Iran and its terrorist allies. Trump also criticized Biden, accusing him of helping Hamas terrorists and leading the world toward World War III. Both Republicans criticized Biden after he vowed to withhold weapons from Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invaded Hamas’s last stronghold in Gaza.

The public criticism from Cheney and Trump comes amid Biden’s re-election campaign against Trump, who has labeled Biden as “weak” and blamed his foreign policies for escalating tensions. Trump reminded Biden of Hamas’s deadly terror attack on Israeli border communities, accusing Biden of taking the side of terrorists. He also criticized Biden for allegedly siding with radical mobs on college campuses due to his donors funding them. Trump portrayed Biden as weak, corrupt, and leading the world toward a global conflict, implying that these issues would not have arisen if he were still in the White House.

Cheney, who was once an ally of Trump’s and served as the chair of the House Republican Conference, later became a staunch critic of the former president after he was defeated by Biden in the 2020 election. She also joined the Jan. 6 House Select Committee to investigate the events surrounding the Capitol riot, ultimately recommending and voting to impeach Trump. Cheney’s actions led to her defeat in the GOP primary race for Wyoming’s at-large congressional seat in 2022. Her strong stance against Trump and alignment with Biden on certain issues have alienated her from many Republicans.

The ongoing tensions between Cheney, Trump, and Biden highlight the deep divisions within the Republican Party over foreign policy and national security issues. While Cheney and Trump may have opposing views on various matters, they have both expressed concern about Biden’s approach to the situation in Israel. Cheney’s criticism of Biden’s decision to withhold aid from Israel aligns with Trump’s rhetoric about Biden’s alleged support for terrorists. Biden’s actions have drawn criticism from both Republicans and Democrats, indicating the complexity of navigating U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, the clash between Cheney, Trump, and Biden reflects broader debates within the GOP over its future direction and leadership. Cheney’s willingness to break with Trump and criticize Biden demonstrates her commitment to her principles and values, even if it means facing backlash from her own party. Trump’s continued influence within the Republican Party, as evidenced by his support from his base, poses a challenge to traditional GOP figures like Cheney who have taken a stand against him. The ongoing discourse surrounding U.S. foreign policy, particularly in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, underscores the complexities and divergent perspectives within American politics.
