Cubicle 7’s The Laundry RPG, currently on Kickstarter, presents a world where monster hunters face tough challenges, such as long hours, low pay, and the pressure of preventing the end of the world. The game is based on The Laundry Files series of novels by Charles Stross, blending occult conspiracy, alien threats, and workplace comedy. Players take on the role of agents in a super-secret division of the British government, tasked with preventing alien gods from destroying Earth.

The game explores a world where reality is not set in stone, with mathematics and computing power powering magic and enabling the invocation of powerful entities from other universes. While many individuals possess minor powers, the Laundry focuses on preventing those who seek to bring forth the Great Old Ones. Agents have access to strange technology, such as iPhones that communicate with the dead, but must be careful not to damage the gadgets or face deductions from their paychecks.

Within the Laundry, agents work in various departments, from accounting to IT support to more specialized roles like counterpossession exorcists and computational demonologists. However, these roles are just day jobs for agents who are tasked with special missions that require their unique expertise. These missions can take them all over the world, but they must be cautious not to clash with rival agencies still operating as if the Cold War never ended.

The Kickstarter for the second edition of The Laundry RPG ends on May 1st, 2024, with digital rewards expected in August of the same year and physical rewards slated for February 2025. The game offers players the chance to immerse themselves in a world of supernatural threats, bureaucratic red tape, and the constant struggle to keep the forces of evil at bay. With its mix of horror, humor, and high stakes, The Laundry RPG promises an exciting and challenging gaming experience for fans of the source material and newcomers alike.
