Florence + the Machine and Taylor Swift have been friends for at least a decade. Swift describes Florence Welch as a magnetic person, surrounded by fascinated individuals wherever she goes. The British singer credits Swift with helping her release her vulnerable third album, “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful,” in 2015. They often meet up when Welch is in New York City, and Welch has even performed at Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ wedding. Welch has also collaborated with some of Swift’s frequent collaborators such as Calvin Harris and Jack Antonoff.

Jack Antonoff, a longtime producer for Taylor Swift, has worked with Florence + the Machine on their 2022 album, “Dance Fever.” Additionally, Welch co-wrote, co-produced, and provided backing vocals for Antonoff’s song, “Self Respect,” released in March 2024. Their first collaboration will debut on The Tortured Poets Department in April 2024. The friendship between Swift and Welch is characterized by deep conversations and shared experiences, including discussing relationships and heartbreak with a group of A-listers at a pizza party at Swift’s New York City apartment after the Met Gala.

In May 2015, Swift described Welch as the most fun person to dance with at a party, with the ability to transition to deep conversations about love and heartbreak in seconds. Welch has sought advice from Swift on relationships and been supported by her during difficult times. In October 2015, Welch expressed her desire to see Swift’s 1989 tour and mentioned that her favorite song of Swift’s was “Shake It Off.” At the Grammys in February 2016, Swift’s “1989” won over Florence + the Machine’s “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful” in the Pop Vocal Album category. Welch clarified that Swift didn’t inspire her to write the album but gave her confidence to release it.

In May 2016, Welch attended the Met Gala co-chaired by Swift and provided support to Lorde by signing her broken arm cast. A year later, in January 2023, the friends were seen at The 1975’s London concert, where Swift performed “Anti-Hero.” The Loose Women host Denise Welch posted a photo with the American singer, capturing a moment with the rock star in the background. In April 2024, Swift will release “The Tortured Poets Department,” featuring a collaboration with Florence + the Machine titled “Florida!!!” Their friendship has been defined by mutual support, collaboration, and shared experiences at events and concerts.
