The Minister of the Interior of the Italian Republic, Matteo Piantedosi, discussed the monitoring of terrorism risks, stating that measures to protect and monitor sensitive sites have been strengthened since October 7. Following the events in Moscow, the debate on terrorism in Italy has been reignited, leading to increased prevention efforts focused on Easter holidays and crowded areas. In Torino, the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety met to define a coordinated plan of controls for the Easter holiday, involving various law enforcement agencies and military personnel from Operation Safe Streets.

The measures implemented aim to enhance security at sensitive sites, such as the airport, train stations, and public transportation networks, due to the expected increase in tourist traffic during the holiday period. Special attention has been given to public entertainment venues, shopping centers, and religious ceremonies. In Trani, an bomb scare at the train station and two schools caused panic and disruptions, leading to evacuations and delays in train services. After the areas were cleared by law enforcement, normalcy was restored, but the incident resulted in significant delays for high-speed and regional trains.

Minister Piantedosi highlighted the identification of numerous sensitive targets across Italy, including 250 Jewish-Israeli sites and thousands of other locations that require attention for various reasons. These measures have been in place since October to address potential threats. The focus on prevention and vigilance has been heightened in response to international events and the need to protect citizens. The increased security measures are aimed at ensuring the safety of the public during festive periods and at locations with high concentrations of people.

In preparation for the Easter holiday weekend, the Torino Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety, chaired by Prefect Donato Cafagna, met to coordinate security measures. The plan includes the deployment of military personnel from Operation Safe Streets in addition to local law enforcement agencies. The objective is to maintain a visible presence at key locations and to conduct thorough inspections to prevent and address any security threats. Concerted efforts are being made to safeguard transport hubs, public spaces, and venues where large gatherings are expected.

Efforts are being made to address potential security risks at transit points, commercial centers, and religious events to ensure public safety. The incident in Trani serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and rapid response to security threats. Law enforcement agencies are working together to address and defuse any potential threats in a timely manner. The coordination of security measures and the allocation of resources to high-risk areas aim to minimize disruptions and ensure the safety and well-being of citizens during holiday periods and public events.
