A woman named Myra Carvalho has been jailed and banned from attending any of Harry Styles’ performances after sending him 8,000 cards in less than a month. She appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the charge of stalking involving serious alarm or distress. Carvalho was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison and received a restraining order lasting for 10 years. Additionally, she was prohibited from contacting Harry Styles directly or indirectly and is not allowed to enter a specific area in north west London.

Carvalho, a 35-year-old stalker from Brazil, expressed ‘sexual urges’ towards the 30-year-old singer and actor Harry Styles through the cards she sent. Reports mentioned that Carvalho had travelled from Brazil to the UK and had been staying at a backpacker hostel in London since December. She hand-delivered some of the cards to Styles’ address and also sent wedding cards. Her barrister mentioned that Carvalho’s doctor believed she was experiencing a ‘manic episode,’ raising concerns about her mental health. Carvalho’s parents, who were unaware of her travel to the UK, wept in court as their daughter appeared on a video link from HMP Bronzefield.

Harry Styles, known for being part of the band One Direction and having a successful solo career, was reportedly left ‘shaken’ by Carvalho’s actions. Prosecutors described her behavior as intense and causing distress to Styles. Carvalho’s plea hearing in February revealed the extent of her stalking, including sending over 8,000 cards expressing sexual interest and desires towards Styles. In a previous court appearance, Carvalho was told that her actions would cause alarm or distress, indicating the seriousness of her behavior. The court proceedings highlighted the issues surrounding her obsession with Styles and the negative impact it had on him.

The court imposed a restraining order on Carvalho, banning her from attending any events where Harry Styles is performing. The decision was made considering the alarm and distress caused to Styles by Carvalho’s actions. The prosecution mentioned that two letters were hand-delivered to Styles’ address and that Carvalho had gone to great lengths to contact him. The case underscores the legal consequences of stalking and the importance of protecting the privacy and safety of celebrities like Harry Styles. The sentencing aims to prevent further harassment and disturbing behavior from Carvalho towards Styles or any other individuals.
