Sarah Bird, a Seattle tech veteran who previously led SEO software startup Moz, has been appointed as the new CEO of Canvas, a software company specializing in technology for remodeling, architecture, and interior design. Bird, who served as the COO of Moz starting in 2007, left the company in November 2021 after it was acquired by J2 Global. Following her departure, she took almost two years on a sabbatical filled with travel, startup investing, volunteering, and remodeling her home. In addition, she got engaged during this period and expressed feeling “powered up” as she embarked on her new role at Canvas.

Canvas leverages LiDAR-enabled iPhone or iPad scans to create precise 3D representations of homes and develop interactive models with accurate measurements. This process transforms the scans into detailed, editable, as-built files in standard industry formats. The company, which is fully remote with a headquarters in Boulder, Colorado, has roots dating back to 2008 when it was founded by Jeffrey Powers and Vikas Reddy under the name Occipital Inc. Bird expressed enthusiasm for Canvas not only for its cutting-edge technology but also for the customers it serves, who are the artisans of our living spaces blending art and science to enhance the beauty and functionality of environments.

In her announcement on LinkedIn, Bird highlighted her excitement for the opportunity to support the artisans of our spaces in their workflow and contribute to their success. A University of Washington School of Law graduate and former board member of the Washington Technology Industry Association, Bird plans to remain in Seattle as she takes on her new leadership role at Canvas. One of her first priorities as CEO is to address a gap in the Canvas leadership team, including the hiring of a chief revenue officer. Known for her strategic leadership and dedication to the tech industry, Bird’s appointment signals a new chapter for Canvas under her guidance.

Bird’s extensive background in technology and her passion for supporting innovators in various industries make her a valuable addition to the Canvas team. Her experience leading Moz has equipped her with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive growth and success within the tech sector. As she steps into her role as CEO, Bird is eager to leverage her expertise to further enhance Canvas’s offerings and expand its reach in the remodeling, architecture, and interior design spaces. Her commitment to empowering customers and driving innovation aligns with the core values of Canvas, making her a natural fit for the leadership position.

With Bird at the helm, Canvas is poised to experience significant growth and development in the coming years. Her vision for the company and her dedication to supporting customers and employees alike will drive progress and success across all facets of the organization. As she works to fill key leadership roles and spearhead new initiatives, Bird’s leadership style and industry expertise will play a crucial role in shaping Canvas’s future. Under her guidance, Canvas is well-positioned to achieve new heights of success and establish itself as a leader in the technology space for remodeling, architecture, and interior design.
