Ryan Gosling excitedly shared on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon that his daughters, Esmeralda and Amada, were helping him prepare for his performance of “I’m Just Ken” from the “Barbie” movie at the 2024 Oscars. Gosling joked that his daughters knew all the choreography better than he did and were showing him the dance moves backstage. He mentioned that this was the first big show they had attended together as a family.

The actor revealed that his daughters’ interest in Barbie and lack of interest in Ken sparked his involvement in the project. He also mentioned that Esmeralda and Amada had joined him on set a few times during the filming of the 2023 blockbuster movie. Gosling humorously explained how his daughters needed context for the fake tan stains around the house because of his role as Ken in the Barbie movie. He wanted them to attend the dress rehearsal to understand what he had been working on.

Despite typically keeping his family out of the public eye, Gosling expressed how beautiful it was to have Esmeralda and Amada at the Oscars for his performance. He shared that they attended the dress rehearsal a day before the show and gave him some tips and notes, which he found helpful. His longtime partner, Eva Mendes, was also in attendance for the big night but opted not to walk the red carpet with Gosling. She shared a video of herself backstage underneath his dressing room sign and jokingly urged him to come home after his performance.

Mendes later posted a photo of herself wearing Gosling’s black cowboy hat and pink bedazzled jacket, expressing how proud she was of him taking Ken all the way to the Oscars. The couple, who met on the set of their 2012 film, “The Place Beyond the Pines,” have been together for over a decade. Gosling’s performance at the Oscars was a family affair with his daughters’ involvement in helping him prepare and Mendes showing her support behind the scenes. The actor’s dedication to his role as Ken in the Barbie movie was evident in how he involved his family in the process.
