Princess Beatrice’s ex-boyfriend, Paolo Liuzzo, was found dead in a Florida hotel room from a suspected drug overdose. Miami police were called to his room at the citizenM Miami Worldcenter Hotel on February 7 and he was pronounced dead 12 minutes later. His death is being investigated as an overdose, and his body was transported back to Long Island, NY for a funeral on February 16.

Liuzzo began a romance with Princess Beatrice in 2005 when she was 17 and he was 24. The relationship was approved by her parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, who invited him on a family skiing vacation in Switzerland. Despite the age gap, Ferguson supported her daughter’s romance, saying that Beatrice was a sensible girl with many friends, including Paolo. Before his relationship with Beatrice, Liuzzo was charged with manslaughter in a drunken fistfight, which was later reduced to assault and battery, resulting in 100 hours of community service. He was sent back to the US for violating probation due to the publicity surrounding his relationship with Beatrice.

Liuzzo, who reportedly inherited his fortune from his father, worked as an art industry consultant at the time of his death. Beatrice, now 35, has not commented on Liuzzo’s passing. In 2009, Liuzzo was arrested in Australia for fraud and cocaine possession after crashing a rental car and attempting to dine and dash at a casino. Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in July 2020, and the couple shares a 2-year-old daughter named Sienna Elizabeth. Mozzi also has a 6-year-old son named Christopher “Wolfie” with his ex-girlfriend, Dara Huang. The royal family has been contacted for comment.

Liuzzo’s death occurred not long after Pippa Middleton’s ex-boyfriend, Thomas Kingston, died at age 45. Kingston, who was married to Lady Gabriella Windsor, died from a gunshot wound to the head on February 25. Princess Beatrice’s former boyfriend’s passing is a tragic reminder of the often tumultuous nature of relationships and the toll that substance abuse can take on individuals. The royal family member’s determination to maintain her privacy and focus on her family with her husband and children offers a stark contrast to the challenges that she has faced in her personal life. The tragic deaths of Liuzzo and Kingston serve as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of seeking help for mental health and addiction issues.
