Beginning in 2024, Citi and Chase will cover the increased Global Entry fees for some cardholders in response to the fee increase announced by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). While the fee for Global Entry has been raised by 20% to $120, application fees for minors have been eliminated. This program allows pre-approved travelers to enter the U.S. more quickly, and the two credit card companies are offering to cover the new fees for certain members.

Among the credit cards that will have their Global Entry fees subsidized by Citi and Chase are the Citi/AAdvantage Executive, Citi Prestige, Chase Sapphire Reserve, United Explorer, United Club Visa Infinite, United Quest, IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card, IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card, Aeroplan Card, Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business Credit Card, and J.P. Morgan Reserve. Cardholders with these cards will receive up to $120 every four years to cover the cost of Global Entry renewal or NEXUS, a program that facilitates travel between the U.S. and Canada.

The ability to use the credit for both Global Entry and NEXUS provides added flexibility for cardholders who frequently travel internationally or between the U.S. and Canada. Despite the increase in Global Entry fees, this change will not impact TSA PreCheck, another program that offers expedited security screening for travelers. However, cardholders of Chase and Citi will have the option of applying the credit towards TSA PreCheck as well, providing additional value for their travel needs.

The decision by Citi and Chase to cover the increased Global Entry fees reflects their commitment to providing added benefits and value to their cardholders. By subsidizing these fees, the companies are helping their customers save money on essential travel programs and ensuring that they can continue to enjoy the benefits of expedited entry into the U.S. and Canada. This move also demonstrates the competitive nature of the credit card industry, with companies continually seeking ways to attract and retain customers through valuable perks and rewards.

As the travel industry continues to evolve and adapt to changing trends and regulations, credit card companies like Citi and Chase are finding new ways to enhance the travel experience for their customers. By offering to cover the increased Global Entry fees for select cardholders, these companies are demonstrating their commitment to providing value and convenience to travelers who rely on these programs for smoother and more efficient travel. This move also underscores the importance of partnerships between credit card companies and travel programs in offering added benefits to consumers and ensuring they have a seamless travel experience.
