A man, identified as 26-year-old Bernard Polite, was arrested and charged after attempting to shoot a pastor during a sermon at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred while Pastor Glenn Germany was delivering his sermon, and video footage captured the moment where Polite pointed a gun at the pastor. Fortunately, no shots were fired as the gun jammed, and Pastor Germany thanked God for protecting him. The church Deacon, Clarence McCallister, intervened and tackled Polite to the ground, preventing further harm.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested Polite, who is now facing charges including aggravated assault and attempted homicide. While in police custody, Polite admitted to hearing voices and stated that he was dealing with spirits before attempting to shoot someone. Pastor Germany believes that Polite may be suffering from mental illness, as he mentioned that there were voices in his mind. Despite the traumatic experience, Germany forgave Polite but expressed difficulty in processing the events, especially in front of his 14-year-old daughter who was present during the incident.

Prior to the attempted shooting, Pastor Germany noticed Polite entering and leaving the room multiple times, exhibiting strange behavior. The pastor hopes to use this incident to raise awareness about mental illness within his congregation, emphasizing the reality and impact it can have on individuals. Meanwhile, police are investigating a connection between the shooting at the church and a separate incident where a man, Derek Polite, was found shot to death in the home where Bernard Polite resided. Investigators from the Allegheny County Police Department’s homicide unit have taken over the case.

Despite the terrifying ordeal, Pastor Germany praised Deacon McCallister for his quick thinking and bravery in stepping in to stop the attacker. He also expressed gratitude for the protection he received from a potentially fatal situation, attributing it to divine intervention. The pastor remains shaken by the incident, particularly the emotional toll it took on his daughter who witnessed the events unfold. As the community grapples with the aftermath of these incidents, Pastor Germany hopes to use his experience to highlight the importance of addressing mental health issues and promoting understanding and compassion among his parishioners. The investigation into the shooting at the home of Derek Polite continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to these tragic incidents.
