Two couples from Gaza, Amal Al-Taweel and her husband, Mustafa, along with Rola Saqer and her husband, Mohammed Zaqout, welcomed their long-awaited babies, Ali and Masa, amidst the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Despite the challenging circumstances, the families had hope for a better future for their children. However, the war quickly escalated, leaving their homes destroyed by airstrikes and forcing them to seek shelter with relatives in central Gaza.

The families faced dire living conditions as they were displaced and sought refuge in overcrowded tent camps in Rafah, Gaza’s southernmost city. Food and supplies were scarce due to Israeli restrictions on aid deliveries, exacerbating the already challenging situation for the families. Ali, diagnosed with gastroenteritis, showed signs of malnutrition, with his condition worsening as his parents struggled to provide for him in the midst of the crisis.

Both families eventually decided to return to central Gaza in search of medical care and a more stable living situation. However, the healthcare system in Gaza had been severely impacted by the war, with most hospitals functioning at limited capacity or completely shut down. As the families grappled with the uncertainty of their children’s future, they faced the harsh reality that their hopes for a better life for Ali and Masa were fading.

Saqer, reflecting on the devastation of their homes and uncertain future, expressed the fear that even if they were able to return to their original homes, they would find nothing but rubble. The families resigned themselves to the likelihood of enduring a difficult life in tents, unable to provide the comfortable and stable existence they had once envisioned for their children. As the conflict continued to ravage Gaza, the families remained determined to find a way to give their babies the best possible life, despite the challenges they faced.

As the families struggled to navigate the harsh realities of life in Gaza, they clung to hope for a better future for Ali and Masa. The ongoing conflict had shattered their dreams of a peaceful and prosperous life for their children, but they remained resilient in the face of adversity. Despite the uncertainty and challenges ahead, the families were determined to persevere and provide their babies with the love and care they deserved, regardless of the obstacles in their path.
