The Asayiş Şube Müdürlüğü Dolandırıcılık Büro Amirliği teams in Beyoğlu and Fatih districts started an investigation after receiving reports of foreign tourists having their cards taken and used after attempting to withdraw money from ATMs. The teams analyzed security camera footage and conducted fieldwork, identifying suspects who would approach victims pretending to offer help, swiftly taking their bank cards and leaving by claiming the card was stuck in the ATM. They would then make purchases using the victim’s card through a POS device.

Following an operation involving special operations police, 3 suspects involved in the scam were apprehended. After undergoing procedures at the police station, one of the suspects was arrested while the other two were released under judicial control measures.

According to the investigation by the Asayiş Şube Müdürlüğü, the suspects targeted foreign nationals in areas with high tourist traffic, deceiving them into giving up their bank cards and subsequently using the cards for their own benefit. The suspects were identified through their actions and were apprehended with the help of special operations police.

The successful operation by the Asayiş Şube Müdürlüğü Dolandırıcılık Büro Amirliği teams serves as a warning to both tourists and residents to remain cautious when approached by strangers offering assistance with ATMs. The authorities advise individuals to protect their personal information and bank cards at all times to avoid falling victim to such scams.

As the investigation into the case continues, authorities emphasize the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the public in identifying and apprehending criminals who engage in fraudulent activities targeting unsuspecting individuals. The efforts of the Asayiş Şube Müdürlüğü serve as a reminder of the need for heightened vigilance and awareness to ensure the safety and security of all individuals in the community.
