Kevin Lavelle died following an argument with a group of Welsh railway workers in a pub in Oxfordshire on June 25, 2004, and no one has ever been convicted of his killing. He sustained fifty injuries to his body when he was repeatedly beaten with a dumbbell. A trial in 2006 of Ceri Noble, one of the Welsh rail workers, collapsed as members of the group refused to reveal who had delivered the fatal blows. DNA evidence found on the murder weapon could not conclusively identify the perpetrator.

Despite an inquest ruling his death as unlawful killing, no one has been jailed for Kevin’s murder even twenty years later. His family believes that potential witnesses present in the pub at the time have been covering up what happened to him. A civil damages claim against the suspects was dismissed by a judge in 2010 and again on appeal in 2011. Kevin’s mother passed away in 2021, and his father is seriously ill, leaving his sister Lesley as the main advocate for seeking justice for her brother’s death.

Lesley is determined to bring the case back into public consciousness. She plans to distribute flyers in the areas of witnesses and contact Thames Valley Police to restart the investigation. The police had offered a reward for information in 2014, and Lesley believes that this could prompt someone to come forward with vital information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case. She recalls her mother’s passing and her father’s illness, and the impact that Kevin’s death has had on their family.

Kevin’s fiancée received a phone call from him moments before the fatal attack, where he mentioned being in a fight but assured her that everything was okay. Lesley alleges that the police were previously unable to intervene in an incident at the pub due to misinformation provided by a worker there. Despite the passage of time, Kevin’s memory is still alive in their community, and Lesley is dedicated to seeking justice for her brother. She believes that someone who knows the truth must come forward to provide closure and accountability to the family.

Lesley reflects on the devastation of losing her brother and the ongoing fight for truth and justice for over two decades. She is prepared to knock on the doors of witnesses’ neighbors and remind them of the events that unfolded that night. She urges those with any information to come forward as allegiances might have shifted within the community, leading to a potential break in the case. Lesley is determined not to give up on seeking answers and holding those responsible accountable, even after all these years of anguish and uncertainty.
