Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently began their royal tour in Nigeria after reuniting at London’s Heathrow Airport. Meghan was criticized for not accompanying Harry on his trip to the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. The couple landed in Nigeria after a slight delay due to the pilot falling ill on their British Airways flight to Abuja.

In Nigeria, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were greeted by officials and taken to an official engagement with Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa. They also visited children at the Lights Academy in Abuja, where they were adorned with traditional wooden beaded necklaces. Meghan wore a peach-hued maxi dress while Harry opted for a light-wash linen shirt and khaki pants.

Harry met with injured service members at a military hospital later on in the day, further emphasizing his commitment to the Invictus Games, a competition he founded for wounded or injured servicemen and veterans. The couple is scheduled to attend a training session for the organization “Nigeria: Unconquered” and a reception for military families during their time in Nigeria.

During their stay, Meghan will co-host an event focused on Women in Leadership with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization. The pair will also participate in a basketball clinic with Giants of Africa and attend a reception and polo fundraiser for Nigeria: Unconquered. Their visit to Nigeria marks their first official engagement since leaving their royal duties in 2020.

Despite criticism over Meghan’s absence from Harry’s UK trip, the couple is dedicating their time in Nigeria to various engagements focused on supporting military families, wounded servicemen, and promoting women in leadership roles. From their arrival in Abuja to their planned activities throughout their visit, Meghan and Harry are making a statement about their commitment to important causes and the global community.
