Kevin Spacey, the Oscar-winning actor, has denied new allegations of inappropriate behavior from men who will feature in a documentary on British television set to be released next week. Spacey, who was acquitted last year of criminal charges in a London court, stated in an online interview that he has never done anything illegal and struggles to get back to work due to the continued attacks on his character. The documentary, titled “Spacey Unmasked,” is scheduled to air on May 6 and 7 on Channel 4 in Britain and will be streamed on Max in the U.S. It is said to feature testimony from men regarding events between 1976 and 2013.

During the interview, Spacey took full responsibility for his past behavior but refused to apologize to anyone who has fabricated stories or exaggerated claims about him. He denied ever using sexual favors to advance someone’s career and admitted to being a “flirt” with men in their 20s, making clumsy passes at times. Spacey mentioned that he has engaged in relationships with men who believed it would benefit their careers, but he was not aware of any ulterior motives on their part. He expressed frustration over the accusations made against him and stated that he was not given enough time by Channel 4 to respond to the allegations in their documentary.

Spacey has faced challenges in his career since the initial allegations of inappropriate behavior surfaced in 2017, at the beginning of the #MeToo movement. His lead role as Frank Underwood in the Netflix drama “House of Cards” was terminated, and he has struggled to find work due to the negative publicity surrounding the allegations against him. Despite being acquitted of all criminal charges last year, Spacey described his experience as a “life sentence” and expressed his frustration at not being given a fair opportunity to defend himself against new claims of misconduct.

The actor reflected on his time as the artistic director of the Old Vic Theatre in London from 2004 to 2015 and acknowledged that he had engaged in relationships with younger men during that period. He stated that some individuals may have sought to advance their careers by associating with him, but he was not complicit in any arrangements that promised career advancement in exchange for sexual favors. Spacey emphasized that he has been exonerated each time he has had the opportunity to defend himself against allegations and expressed his disappointment at Channel 4’s refusal to grant him more time to respond to the accusations made in their upcoming documentary.

Spacey’s interview with journalist Dan Wootton addressed the impact of the ongoing allegations on his personal and professional life. He lamented the toll that the accusations have taken on his ability to work and expressed frustration at the lack of support he has received in the industry. Despite facing challenges in his career, Spacey remains adamant in his denial of any illegal behavior and maintains that he has been unfairly targeted by individuals seeking to tarnish his reputation. The upcoming documentary is expected to shed light on the allegations made against him and will likely reignite public interest in the actor’s past behavior. Channel 4 has yet to comment on the matter.
