The happy couple first met in 2006 when Foster served as a guest mentor on American Idol. Foster, who has been married multiple times in the past, shares six children, including daughters Sara and Erin, with his former partners. McPhee was previously married to Nick Cokas from 2008 to 2016. The couple began dating in 2017 and got married in June 2019. They welcomed their son Rennie in February 2021. McPhee and Foster have collaborated musically, releasing a collection of holiday-themed tracks called Christmas Songs in 2022 and touring together on multiple occasions.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, McPhee and Foster discussed their experiences performing together. Foster described life on the road as ‘a bit of a shlep,’ while McPhee admitted that she had never fully adjusted to constant travel as a singer. Despite the challenges, McPhee expressed that being onstage for those two hours was the best part of the experience. The couple’s son has even joined them on stage, playing drums during one of their concerts.
