Ford is recalling over 456,000 Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles due to a battery detection issue that can lead to a loss of drive power, raising crash risks. The recall, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), involves an inability of the body and power train control modules to detect changes in battery charge, potentially resulting in sudden stalling or an inability to restart the vehicle, as well as affecting other electric features like hazard lights. The impacted vehicles include approximately 403,000 model year 2021-2024 Bronco Sports and more than 53,000 model year 2022-2023 Mavericks, with dealer recalibration of the modules set to be conducted at no cost. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be sent out on May 13.

The software update required to address the battery detection issue is currently not available, but Ford has assured that it will be released later in the second quarter. Emphasizing safety as a top priority, the company spokesperson stated that proactive measures are being taken to promptly and effectively address the problem. As of February 8, there have been no reported injuries related to the issue, but Ford has received 917 warranty reports, 11 field reports, and 54 customer complaints. Additionally, there have been two property damage claims and three unverified fire reports associated with the recall.

In addition to the battery detection issue, Bronco Sport owners have been affected by another recall involving fuel leaks on select vehicles. The NHTSA recently mentioned that it was investigating Ford’s proposed remedy for the recall of around 43,000 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs, where gasoline leakage from fuel injectors onto hot engine surfaces could increase the risk of fires. The NHTSA expressed concerns about the proposed remedy not addressing the fuel leaks, further adding to the challenges faced by Ford in ensuring the safety of its vehicles and addressing potential risks to consumers.

Ford’s ongoing efforts to address safety concerns and conduct recalls demonstrate the company’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of its customers. The proactive measures being taken, such as the free recalibration of the control modules and timely communication to affected owners, highlight Ford’s dedication to resolving issues promptly and effectively. Through these actions, Ford aims to maintain its reputation for safety and reliability within the automotive industry while keeping customers informed and protected from potential risks associated with their vehicles.

Vehicle recalls have become a common occurrence in the automotive industry, as manufacturers strive to address safety issues and maintain the trust of consumers. By conducting recalls and offering no-cost remedies to affected vehicles, companies like Ford demonstrate their commitment to customer safety and satisfaction. The collaboration between manufacturers, regulatory bodies like the NHTSA, and vehicle owners is crucial in ensuring that safety concerns are addressed promptly and effectively, ultimately leading to a safer driving experience for everyone on the road. As technology continues to advance in vehicles, addressing potential issues promptly through recalls and software updates becomes essential in maintaining the overall safety and reliability of modern automobiles.
