Jenifer Lewis, a seasoned stage and screen veteran, recently appeared on the Fox competition series The Masked Singer as Miss Cleocatra. Lewis revealed that she was still recovering from a major health scare when she filmed her appearance on the show. She had fallen from a 10-foot hotel balcony in Tanzania in 2022 and had difficulty walking after the accident. The Miss Cleocatra costume was designed with her mobility issues in mind, allowing her to be carried out on a barge and sit on a throne during her performances on the show.

Despite her health challenges, Lewis found the experience of filming The Masked Singer to be a fun and stress-free way to get back into the game. She was encouraged by her friends to participate in the show and enjoyed the opportunity to have a good time and offer words of wisdom. Following her recovery, The Masked Singer was one of the first projects she took on, as she appreciated the low-stress nature of the show. Lewis expressed a desire to have a career without stress, especially after her traumatic fall in Africa.

In addition to her appearance on The Masked Singer, Lewis also participated in Jennifer Lopez’s project This Is Me … Now: A Love Story, in which she played the Gemini member of the zodiac council. Lopez specifically wanted Lewis to address the topic of mental illness, as Lewis has been open about her struggles with bipolar disorder. Lewis found the experience of working on the project to be enjoyable, even though she found the costume to be outlandish and questioned its design. She appreciated Lopez’s focus on mental health and was glad to contribute to the project in a meaningful way.

Lewis reflected on her experience on The Masked Singer, noting that it was one of the weirdest projects she had ever done. She shared that she has had mishaps with costumes in the past, including a memorable incident where a wardrobe malfunction occurred in front of an audience. Despite the challenges that sometimes come with performing in elaborate costumes, Lewis found The Masked Singer to be a unique and enjoyable experience. The show airs on Fox on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET and provided Lewis with an opportunity to showcase her talents in a fun and lighthearted manner.
