Delta Air Lines has released its second annual list of the most-searched summer travel destinations for 2024, with international spots being the most in-demand. According to Delta’s search data in the US, the top 10 list for travel between May and August 2024 included popular tourist destinations like London, Paris, and Rome, as well as newer destinations such as Dublin, Barcelona, and Vancouver, Canada.

Overall, searches for all of the top 10 international destinations increased by more than 150% from the previous year. However, Athens, Greece, saw the largest surge in interest with searches increasing by 248% compared to the previous year. Despite this significant increase, Athens still came in at fourth place overall, with a higher surge than all the other destinations on the list compared to 2023.

The full list of Delta’s 2024 most-searched summer destinations includes London, England; Paris, France; Rome, Italy; Athens, Greece; Cancun, Mexico; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Tokyo, Japan; Dublin, Ireland; Barcelona, Spain; and Vancouver, Canada. These destinations offer a mix of cultural experiences, natural beauty, and iconic landmarks that attract travelers from around the world.

On the domestic front, the most-searched destinations for domestic travel included Las Vegas, Orlando, Miami, and Honolulu, with the exception of Delta Hubs. Delta attributes the interest in these destinations to the appeal of sun-drenched getaways and major summer sporting events that draw tourists looking for leisure and excitement during the warmer months.

Overall, the trend of travelers seeking international travel destinations for the summer of 2024 indicates a desire to explore new cultures, experience different cuisines, and immerse themselves in unique experiences abroad. The increase in searches for international destinations, particularly for cities like Athens, reflects a growing interest in visiting less traditional tourist spots and seeking out off-the-beaten-path travel experiences.

As the travel industry continues to recover and adapt to the changing landscape, airlines like Delta are providing valuable insights into traveler preferences and trends. By analyzing search data and identifying the most popular destinations for the upcoming summer season, airlines can better cater to the needs and interests of their customers, ultimately enhancing the overall travel experience and creating memorable journeys for passengers worldwide.
