Approximately half of the fuel spilled onto the highway, leading to a nightmarish rush-hour commute that backed up traffic for miles and required drivers to take slow-moving detours. The closure also prompted Norwalk Public Schools to cancel classes on Friday due to the disruption caused by the accident.
Over the weekend, workers focused on clearing tons of steel, concrete, and debris from the interstate before repaving the roadway to ensure the safe and efficient flow of traffic. Governor Lamont emphasized the importance of prioritizing the repairs to restore access for motorists and ensure the continued economic viability of the region.
