A New Rochelle man named Jason Ricketts has been sentenced to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing three children and filming the encounters between 2019 and early 2023. After his release, he will be under 20 years of supervised release and will register as a sex offender. Ricketts met his victims in areas where children gather and pretended to be younger to befriend them. He gained their trust, used illegal substances with them, and eventually engaged in sex acts while secretly filming them.

During a press conference, District Attorney Mimi Rocah revealed that Ricketts threatened his victims with posting the footage on social media if they wanted the abuse to stop. One victim mentioned meeting Ricketts at the age of 8 before the abuse began, accusing him of stealing years of their life. Another victim described Ricketts as a disgusting human being who blackmailed and terrified them whenever they tried to make new friends. Ricketts apologized in court to the victims and his family but admitted he didn’t expect forgiveness, as he believed God had already forgiven him.

Ricketts pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, second-degree criminal sexual act, and promoting obscene sexual performance by a child. He was arrested after authorities seized devices from his home, including a phone with a photo vault disguised as a calculator app containing videos and photos of him abusing the children. Rocah stated that Ricketts had inflicted unspeakable trauma on his victims and had finally been brought to justice and removed from the community.

The victims expressed their anger and pain towards Ricketts in court, with one calling him a predator who had negatively affected not only them but also others who once considered him a friend. They spoke of the fear and blackmail they endured at his hands but declared their refusal to be scared of him any longer. Ricketts nodded in acknowledgment of their statements and expressed hope that he never saw them again, hinting at the lasting impact of his crimes on their lives. Despite his apologies, the victims remained resolute in their condemnation of him.

Ricketts’ predatory behavior highlights the dangers children face when encountering individuals who deceive and manipulate them for sinister purposes. The case also underscores the importance of vigilance and open communication between children and trusted adults to prevent such abuses. The legal consequences Ricketts faced serve as a reminder to perpetrators of child abuse that justice will be pursued, and society will not tolerate such heinous acts. The victims’ bravery in coming forward and standing up to their abuser sends a powerful message of resilience and the determination to hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
