Four Colorado law enforcement officers came to the rescue of a woman in labor who was delivering triplets prematurely on a snowy evening. The officers from the Greeley Police Department found the 24-year-old mother in labor on a neighbor’s front porch and quickly sprang into action. Despite the challenging conditions, they were able to help deliver the babies with the assistance of basic household items.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers discovered that one of the babies had already been born but was turning blue. One officer found bread ties to fasten off the umbilical cord while others gathered towels and blankets to keep the mother and babies warm. Despite the freezing temperatures and snowfall, the officers were able to provide immediate aid to the mother and newborns.

A harrowing moment occurred when one of the babies stopped breathing upon being placed in a patrol car. An officer administered CPR and chest compressions until paramedics arrived to take over. Even after the first baby was delivered, a second baby was born while officers continued to assist the mother and ensure the safety of all the newborns.

Ultimately, all three babies were delivered safely and were taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to receive further medical care. The babies’ father, Eric Mayeda, shared the news of their safe arrival on social media, expressing gratitude for the swift actions of the officers and the medical team. Despite being premature, the babies were reported to be in good health under the circumstances.

The mother had gone into labor while alone at home and had to walk to a neighbor’s house to call for help as her phone had died. The officers’ quick response and expertise in handling the situation played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the mother and her newborn triplets. The triplets were named Burt Isao Leonard-Mayeda, Kikutaro Alan Leonard-Mayeda, and Billy Bob Leonard-Mayeda by their father.

Police Chief Adam Turk commended the officers for their exemplary performance and dedication to their duties. He highlighted the importance of teamwork, ingenuity, and care provided by the officers in responding to such a unique and challenging situation. The successful outcome of the call demonstrated the professionalism and commitment of the officers, showcasing the values of the Greeley Police Department in serving their community.
