Mexico’s undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez successfully defended his WBC, WBO, IBF, and WBA titles with a unanimous victory over compatriot Jaime Munguia in Las Vegas. The fight saw Alvarez score a knockdown in the fourth round, the first of Mungia’s career. Alvarez received scores of 117-110, 116-111, and 115-112 from the judges to secure the win, improving his record to 61-2-2.

Alvarez praised Munguia as a strong and smart fighter but stated that he was able to see every punch and ultimately came out victorious. He expressed pride in his performance and declared himself the best fighter at the moment. This victory marked Alvarez’s fourth defense of his super middleweight titles, showcasing his dominance in the division. The 33-year-old had previously defeated Jermell Charlo last year.

Munguia, known for his knockout power with 34 previous knockouts, came out aggressively against Alvarez, pushing him back with his jab and landing solid punches. However, Alvarez responded in the fourth round with a powerful uppercut that sent Munguia to the canvas. Despite Munguia’s efforts to press forward and showcase his skills under trainer Freddie Roach, Alvarez’s experience and ability to penetrate Munguia’s guard allowed him to land the more damaging blows.

The atmosphere at the T-Mobile Arena was electric, with Mexican fans evenly divided in their support for the two combatants. Chants of “Canelo!” filled the arena as Alvarez displayed his boxing prowess and strategic approach to the fight. Munguia’s aggressive style and power were unable to trouble Alvarez, who showcased his technical skills and ability to counter effectively throughout the match.

The fight was seen as a potential changing of the guard in the super middleweight division, with Munguia looking to dethrone the reigning champion. However, Alvarez’s experience, skill, and determination proved to be too much for Munguia to overcome. Alvarez’s victory solidified his status as one of the best fighters in the world, with his impressive record and ability to successfully defend his titles against tough opponents.

As the fight progressed, Alvarez continued to display his boxing IQ and ability to adapt to his opponent’s tactics. He remained composed and utilized his superior technique to outclass Munguia and secure a convincing victory. The outcome of the fight reaffirmed Alvarez’s position as the top fighter in the super middleweight division and left fans eagerly anticipating his next challenge as he looks to continue his reign as champion.
