Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley is under investigation after a bodycam video showed her getting into a heated confrontation with a police officer who stopped her for speeding. In the video, Doorley called the officer an “a–hole” and demanded to be left alone, refusing to cooperate with his orders. Despite admitting to speeding, she did not show remorse and repeatedly mentioned her position as the DA of Monroe County.

Governor Kathy Hochul referred the incident to the State Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct, stating that Doorley’s behavior was in violation of her responsibilities as a District Attorney and undermined her ability to uphold the law. In response, Doorley issued an apology video, acknowledging her wrongdoing and expressing regret for her actions. She admitted to falling short of the values she has upheld throughout her 33-year career and apologized to the officer involved for not treating him with the respect he deserved.

Doorley explained that she had been dealing with the aftermath of three homicides that weekend and a medical concern involving her husband, which contributed to her behavior during the traffic stop. She pleaded guilty to the speeding ticket, expressed willingness to pay the fine, and stated that she would refer the matter to a different district attorney’s office for review. Additionally, she committed to self-reporting the case to the grievance committee and taking ethics training to remind herself of the importance of professionalism.

Throughout the bodycam video, Doorley continued to assert her authority as the DA of Monroe County and showed defiance towards the officer conducting the traffic stop. Despite the officer’s attempts to de-escalate the situation and maintain professionalism, Doorley maintained a hostile demeanor and made derogatory remarks towards him. The incident raised concerns about Doorley’s ability to lead as a prosecutor and hold others accountable for violating the law.

The confrontation between Doorley and the police officer sparked public outrage and calls for accountability from the District Attorney. The video footage circulated widely on social media, leading to widespread criticism of Doorley’s behavior and demands for appropriate consequences. The incident raised questions about the ethical standards expected of law enforcement officials and the need for transparency and accountability in cases involving public officials.

In the wake of the incident, Doorley has expressed remorse for her actions and recognized the impact of her behavior on the public’s perception of her role as a prosecutor. She has taken steps to address the situation, including issuing a public apology, accepting responsibility for her actions, and committing to self-improvement through ethics training. Moving forward, Doorley has vowed to make amends for her behavior and seek forgiveness from the community she serves.
