Thirteen students from the Seattle area were surprised with college scholarships as part of Amazon’s “Amazon Future Engineer” program. The scholarships were awarded during an event at Amazon’s Prime Air drone delivery facility in Seattle. The winners come from various school districts in the region, including Bellevue, Lake Washington, Sumner-Bonney Lake, Seattle Public Schools, and University Place.

The recipients of the Amazon Future Engineer scholarships will receive up to $40,000 to pursue degrees in computer science, engineering, or related fields at the college or university of their choice. They were selected based on a variety of criteria, including academic achievement, leadership skills, participation in school and community activities, work experience, future goals, and financial need. In addition to the scholarship, the students will also receive a paid internship offer at Amazon after their freshman year of college.

Amazon is awarding scholarships to 17 students across Washington state and 400 nationwide this year as part of its Future Engineer program. The company is investing in computer science education for students from historically underrepresented and underserved communities in order to empower them to pursue rewarding careers and drive innovation for a more equitable and sustainable future. The global director of education philanthropy at Amazon, Victor Reinoso, emphasized the importance of equipping students with the skills needed to shape future generations.

The Amazon Future Engineer program was launched in 2019 and has committed $54 million in scholarships to 1,350 students across the United States since its inception. The program aims to support students from diverse backgrounds in pursuing careers in technology and innovation. By providing financial assistance and internship opportunities, Amazon is helping to bridge the gap in access to education and opportunities in the field of computer science and engineering.

The students selected for the Amazon Future Engineer scholarships expressed their gratitude and excitement at the opportunity to pursue their academic and career goals with the support of Amazon. Many of the recipients come from diverse backgrounds and are passionate about using their skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on society. The scholarships not only provide financial assistance but also open doors to valuable internship experiences and future career opportunities.

The scholarship recipients are looking forward to beginning their college journeys and continuing their education in computer science and engineering. With the support of Amazon and the Future Engineer program, they are well on their way to achieving their goals and making a difference in the tech industry. The program highlights the importance of investing in education and empowering students to pursue their passions and contribute to innovation and progress in the field of technology.
