An 18-year-old college student, Alexa Kropf, was struck by a deranged motorist on a dirt bike in the Pine Hills neighborhood near the University of Albany campus. The driver fled the scene, leaving Alexa with brain injuries, leg, and pelvis fractures. She was placed in a medically induced coma at Albany Medical Center Hospital for treatment. As Alexa’s father, Jim Kropf, stated that the next few days are crucial for her recovery, the family and friends are praying for her well-being.

The male motorist’s reckless driving on Hudson Avenue resulted in him colliding with Alexa and then fleeing the scene before police arrived. The authorities, including Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and Police Chief Eric Hawkins, are utilizing all available resources to track down the driver. Despite the city’s ban on ATVs and dirt bikes on public roads, Alexa became the latest victim of such crimes, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement of the law to prevent such incidents in the future.

Alexa’s father expressed gratitude for her friends’ prompt actions that possibly saved her life by calling 911 and getting her to the hospital quickly. He emphasized that his daughter was looking forward to finishing her first year of college and returning home but the driver’s actions took away that opportunity from her. A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help cover Alexa’s medical expenses as she faces multiple surgeries and a long recovery process, indicating the community’s support for her and her family during this difficult time.

Jim Kropf visited the site where his daughter was struck, highlighting the presence of cameras in the area that could assist in identifying the culprit. He expressed disdain for the driver’s reckless behavior and disregard for others, emphasizing that no family should have to endure such a traumatic experience. While staying by Alexa’s bedside and awaiting her transfer closer to home, he stressed the importance of her brain condition as the main focus of concern. The family is hopeful for Alexa’s recovery as they navigate through this challenging situation.
