Tesla has recently issued a recall for all Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024 due to faulty accelerator pedals. The National Highway Traffic Association reported that the pedals may become dislodged when high force is applied and could become trapped in the interior trim above it, increasing the risk of collision. The recall affects nearly 4,000 vehicles, and Tesla has confirmed the issue, attributing it to an unapproved change in assembly using soap as a lubricant for the pedals, which reduced their retention.

The issue with the accelerator pedals was first reported in March 2024, but initial investigations showed that the cars were functioning as intended when both the brake and accelerator pedals were pressed simultaneously. However, after a second complaint in April, Tesla conducted tests to recreate the problem and verified the condition. Following additional testing, the company decided to voluntarily recall the affected vehicles. As of April 15, Tesla has not received any reports of collisions, injuries, or deaths related to this issue, and they have pledged to replace or repair the defective pedals at no cost to the customers.

Tesla took prompt action to address the faulty accelerator pedals, and by April 17, all Cybertrucks being manufactured were equipped with a new and improved pedal design. The company is working diligently to resolve the issue and ensure the safety of its customers. In addition to this recent recall, earlier in the year, Tesla had to recall a large number of vehicles in the U.S. due to a different safety concern related to the font size used on the instrument panel. The small font used to display warning messages on various functions violated federal safety standards, affecting nearly 2.2 million cars.

As Tesla continues to address and rectify safety issues with its vehicles, the company remains committed to ensuring the quality and reliability of its products. They have responded promptly to the accelerator pedal problem and are actively working to resolve the issue for affected customers. With no reports of accidents or injuries linked to the faulty pedals as of the latest update, Tesla is focused on addressing the issue and providing a solution to those impacted by the recall. Customers are encouraged to reach out to Tesla for further information and assistance regarding the replacement or repair of their accelerator pedals.
