Donna Butterfield, a 30-year-old beautician from Wales, tragically died after undergoing a boob job in Spain last September. She had previously had a breast enlargement done, but she returned to have an imbalance corrected which cost her $6,480.30. It is believed that Butterfield, who had a pre-existing heart condition, had a fatal reaction to the anesthetic during the surgery, leading to a heart attack. Despite being in intensive care for almost two weeks, she passed away on September 13.

Butterfield’s family revealed that the consultations before the surgery were conducted through email, and very few precautions were taken by the clinic. When they arrived at the clinic in Majorca, they were given a confused account by the surgeon. Friends of Butterfield mentioned that the surgeon appeared nervous and conflicted and could not explain what went wrong. An anesthetist who had previously been banned from practicing medicine due to manslaughter charges was arrested in connection to Butterfield’s death. Emergency services responding to the call were shocked by Butterfield’s condition and noted that CPR had not been properly administered.

Butterfield’s family, including her mother, stepfather, and brother, flew to Majorca to be by her side. They set up a GoFundMe to bring her home, stating that she suffered a reaction to the anesthetic, leading to a cardiac arrest and coma. Unfortunately, Butterfield could not recover and passed away just under two weeks later. The Spanish National Police arrested the clinic director in connection to Butterfield’s death. Another health professional involved in the surgery was also arrested for gross negligence manslaughter.

The police investigations revealed several irregularities in the surgery, including the health professionals agreeing to perform a second cosmetic procedure without properly informing the patient of the risks. Butterfield went into cardiac arrest when clinicians were preparing for the second operation. It was also discovered that the patient consent forms were written in Spanish, which Butterfield could not read. The police confirmed that the director of the clinic had been arrested while already in prison for another issue related to his medical profession. He was released from prison to be informed of the new charges before being returned to jail.

The tragic death of Donna Butterfield during a cosmetic surgery procedure in Spain raised concerns about the negligence and irregularities in the clinic where she underwent the surgery. The inadequate precautions taken before the surgery, confusion among the medical staff, and the involvement of a banned practitioner all contributed to the unfortunate outcome. Butterfield’s family and friends were devastated by her passing, and efforts to bring her home were in vain. The arrests made by the Spanish National Police shed light on the serious violations surrounding the surgery, leading to criminal charges against the clinic director and a health professional. The case serves as a warning about the importance of patient safety and thorough medical practices in cosmetic procedures.
