The Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams in Antalya initiated an operation in the Bahtılı neighborhood of Konyaaltı district following a tip-off about cockfighting taking place.

During the operation carried out at the specified address, 5 roosters, 3 iron cages, 7 fighting cages, 1 ring, and 105,925 Turkish liras in cash, which was considered to be used for betting, were seized.

A total of 16 people who were detained in the operation were fined a total of 102,080 Turkish liras.

The roosters involved in the fights were examined by a veterinarian and then handed over to the Antalya National Parks Directorate.

It is illegal in Turkey to organize or participate in cockfighting events, with severe penalties imposed on those caught engaging in this cruel and inhumane activity.

Authorities continue to crack down on animal fighting operations in order to protect and safeguard the welfare of animals in the country.
