The Ministry continues its inspections on industrial facilities and other activities to prevent environmental pollution. Constant Emission Monitoring Systems monitor the pollutant parameters in 773 industrial chimneys 24/7, and immediate action is taken if any irregularities are detected. Industrial facilities that are not required to install Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems according to environmental legislation are monitored through periodic measurements taken in their chimneys.

Last year, a total of 8,450 inspections were conducted regarding air pollution. Administrative fines totaling 110 million Turkish lira were imposed on 496 facilities found to emit emissions in violation of the procedures, restrictions, and prohibitions specified in environmental legislation. Additionally, operations were halted for 86 facilities. The Ministry monitors all processes online.

In addition to on-site inspections conducted by the Ministry, 8 Regional Clean Air Centers were established nationwide to effectively carry out air quality monitoring activities. A total of 380 air quality monitoring stations in all 81 provinces in Turkey measure air quality online in accordance with international standards. These measurements are conducted with fully automated devices, and the real-time results from the stations are sent to the “National Air Quality Monitoring Network” as hourly averages.

This data is then made available to the public through the website “www.havaizleme.gov.tr” as well as on mobile phones. The results of these measurements are used in decision-making processes related to the environment.
