Washington demands accountability… and Assad pardons “terrorist crimes”
Syrian opponents in Damascus said that the “Al-Tadamon neighborhood massacre” south of the Syrian capital, “was not the only one that was committed over the years and has been going on for more than 11 years, but it was destined to leak out in a video showing a mass execution of dozens of civilians, and then their burning, The massacre and the modern neighborhood became the most prominent in the media.”
On the 27th of last April, the British newspaper, The Guardian, published a lengthy investigation, which was accompanied by video clips showing that members of the 227th Branch, or what is known as the “region branch” of the Military Intelligence, carried out mass executions of civilians in Hay Solidarity.”
Civil sources confirm to Asharq Al-Awsat that, during the incursions that the regular army and its loyalists were carrying out in the area controlled by the armed opposition factions, “liquidations were always carried out for people who chose to stay in their homes, and in some houses several people from one family were liquidated.” As it was seen in the northern part, especially in the early morning hours, corpses were lying in the streets.
Yesterday, the US State Department condemned in the “strongest terms” the atrocities revealed in the video, and demanded accountability for these crimes.
In addition, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad issued a decree granting a general amnesty for “terrorist crimes” committed by Syrians before April 30, except for those that led to the death of a human being.
