Tribes loyal to Gaddafi: Libya on the brink of civil war

An American threat to punish “obstructors of political solutions”

The “Forum of Notables and Social and Popular Leaders in the Western Region” in Libya said that in light of “a collapsed political situation and a foreign conspiracy against the country, Libya has reached the brink of civil war, division and foreign occupation,” stressing “the unity of the national territory.”

The tribes participating in the forum, which was held yesterday evening in the city of Bani Walid (northwest), under the auspices of the Social Council of the Warfalla Tribes, stressed the need to hold elections and release all prisoners, especially detainees from the Abu Hadi region, which owes allegiance to the regime of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi. , whose residents have constantly complained of being besieged and harassed by the forces of the “Tariq bin Ziyad Brigade” affiliated with the Libyan “National Army”, in addition to being forced to close shops, banks, bakeries and pharmacies.

The heads of the tribes affiliated with the meeting of notables, loyal to Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, also affirmed that “Libya is one country that does not accept division except by itself,” noting that despite the political circumstances and crises, the people “will remain united.”

Meanwhile, Richard Norland, the US ambassador and special envoy to Libya, once again threatened to punish those who obstruct political solutions. He said that the United States “may re-evaluate its relations with actors and institutions that delay and impede progress towards political solutions,” stressing “the urgent need to take concrete steps to establish a constitutional basis that leads to documented and transparent elections, in line with the aspirations of the Libyan people.” Norland appealed to all Libyan leaders and institutions to use their influence to achieve this goal, warning that “the status quo cannot continue.”
