The guide’s sister attacks his rule… and Khatami supports the protests

The rift began to deepen within the family of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Yesterday (Wednesday), his sister, Badri Hosseini Khamenei, denounced the “authoritarian” rule, nearly two weeks after the arrest of her daughter, Farida Maradkhani, after she called on foreign governments to sever all ties with Tehran due to the authorities’ violent campaign of repression to curb mass protests sparked by the death of Mahsa. Amini while she was in detention by the “morality police” because of her veil.

Yesterday, Badri Hosseini Khamenei, who resides in Iran, criticized the religious establishment from the era of Khomeini until the rule of her brother, according to what was stated in a letter bearing the date “December (December) 2022.”

And she wrote in the letter, which was published by her son, Mahmoud Moradkhani, on his Twitter account: “I think it is appropriate now to announce that I oppose my brother’s actions, and express my sympathy with all mothers who are crying because of the crimes of the Islamic Republic, from the era of Khomeini to the current age of authoritarian caliphate ( In the ruling of Ali Khamenei.

“The Revolutionary Guards and the mercenaries of Ali Khamenei must lay down their weapons and join the people before it is too late,” the letter said.

Likewise, former President Muhammad Khatami declared his support for the protests in Iran, and said in a statement reported by the “ISNA” news agency on Tuesday, on the eve of “Student’s Day”: “Freedom and security should not be pitted against each other… Freedom should not be trampled on for the sake of preservation.” On security… Security should not be ignored in the name of freedom.” He added that the imposition of restrictions “cannot ultimately guarantee the stability and security of universities and society.”
