The coalition forces to support legitimacy in Yemen announced that they will release 163 Houthi prisoners who participated in the hostilities against Saudi Arabia, as part of a humanitarian gesture as an extension of previous humanitarian initiatives.
Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, the official spokesman for the coalition forces, stated that the leadership of the joint forces of the coalition will release 163 Houthis, in support of all efforts and endeavors to end the Yemeni crisis and bring peace and the efforts of the United Nations to consolidate the current truce and create an atmosphere for dialogue between the Yemeni parties, and to facilitate the termination of the file of prisoners, detainees and martyrs in harmony. With Islamic values, humanitarian principles and authentic Arab traditions, and what is stipulated in international humanitarian law represented in the texts and provisions of the Third Geneva Convention, whose implementation has been suspended since 2018 with the Stockholm Convention.
Brigadier General Al-Maliki added that the leadership of the coalition’s joint forces had begun to finalize the procedures for releasing the 163 prisoners, in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross, to be transferred to the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.
The spokesman for the coalition forces stressed that the file of ending the exchange of prisoners and martyrs is of interest to the political and military leadership, which always emphasizes dealing with this file from purely humanitarian grounds, away from political and military calculations or gains.
