Al-Burhan and Cohen discussed security and military issues in Khartoum and “establishing fruitful relations”

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen announced, after his return from a lightning visit to Khartoum, yesterday, Thursday, that he had agreed with the head of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to complete the official normalization agreement between Israel and Sudan, within months, when power would be transferred to civilians, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. In a statement, the Sudanese government said, “During this visit, which lasted for a few hours, it was agreed to move forward towards the normalization of relations between the two countries.”

Cohen described the visit to Sudan, yesterday, as “historic”, where he met Al-Burhan and a number of political and security leaders, with the aim of signing a full normalization agreement between the two countries during this year, indicating that the two parties drafted the agreement, with the blessing of the United States, and it will be signed after That the military in Sudan transfer power to civilians. He pointed out that Sudan will become the fourth country to sign a normalization agreement with Israel, after the UAE, Bahrain and Morocco. Cohen added that the visit “lays important foundations for a historic peace process with a strategic Muslim country,” noting that this peace will open the way for agreements with other countries in Africa, strengthen existing agreements, serve stability in the Middle East, and contribute to Israel’s national security.

For its part, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed, yesterday evening, the meeting of Al-Burhan and Cohen, and said in a press statement that the meeting discussed “ways to establish fruitful relations with Israel and enhance prospects for joint cooperation.”

She added that the talks dealt with security and military issues, as well as Sudan’s role in addressing security issues in the region. The Sudanese Foreign Ministry stated that the Sudanese side urged the Israeli side to achieve stability between Israel and the Palestinian people.
