The joint UN-African tripartite mechanism has set the period from May 10 to 12 next, as the date for the start of the second phase of the dialogue between the Sudanese parties (civilians and military), except for the (dissolved) National Congress Party, in a new effort, to resolve the crisis that has been going on since October 25 (October) last.
The head of the UN Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Peretz, said in a joint press conference with members of the mechanism in Khartoum yesterday, that they had held talks with Sudanese parties, including political forces, army leaders, resistance committees, Sufi orders, and civil society organizations. With the aim of pushing to enter into a dialogue on all issues.
Peretz indicated that there is a consensus on several issues, including constitutional arrangements, building transitional institutions, forming a sovereign council, choosing the prime minister and members of his government, and the government’s program during the transitional period until free elections are reached.
“The situation in Sudan is very sensitive and dangerous, and the mechanism seeks until the Sudanese reach an agreement that will spare the country any risks,” said the African Union envoy, Mohamed El Hassan Ould Labat.
In the meantime, yesterday, the authorities launched opposition leaders, including the former member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Muhammad al-Faki Suleiman.
