Yesterday, Cairo witnessed an Egyptian-Jordanian-Emirati tripartite meeting, which stressed the importance of sustaining efforts to restore calm in Jerusalem, and the need to respect the legal and historical status quo at the Temple Mount.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, according to Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Radi.
The spokesman explained that the talks witnessed a review of the latest developments in the region, especially the developments of the peace process in the Middle East, and the existing coordination between the three countries in this context, in light of the developments in Jerusalem. The attendees stressed respect for the role of the historical Hashemite guardianship in protecting the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, as well as the importance of Israel stopping all measures that undermine the two-state solution and the need to find a political horizon for a return to serious and effective negotiations to resolve the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution and in accordance with international law. Views were also exchanged on a number of international issues, especially the developments of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and the Arab role in this regard through the Arab Liaison Committee.
