America and Iran… Politics will be a heavy guest at the World Cup today

The Brazilian “samba” reached the second round … and Ghana fell to South Korea

Politics will be a heavy guest on sports, when the US and Iran national teams meet today, in the second group competitions of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which will bid farewell to the World Cup after its last meeting with the Netherlands.

The American and Iranian teams meet in a match that attracts the attention of politicians from the two countries before the athletes, because of its tense nature that goes beyond the boundaries of “football”, due to the political and military tensions between the two countries in recent years. In the 1998 World Cup, Iran beat the United States 2-1.

The American team displayed the Iranian flag without the slogan “The Islamic Republic” before confronting the elected in support of the protests, before the slogan was returned on Sunday. While some Iranians wave the flag bearing the slogan “Islamic Republic” to show their support for the government, others raise a completely different flag from the Shah’s era.

On the other hand, the Brazil national team (samba) flew to the second round of the World Cup competitions, after its difficult victory over the Swiss national team, with a goal to none, in the seventh group competitions yesterday. In the same group, the Cameroonian national team tied with its Serbian counterpart, with three goals each, in an exciting match that brought them together at the Al Janoub Stadium.

And in the eighth group competitions, the Ghanaian national team succeeded in defeating its South Korean counterpart, with three goals to two, to score its first three points in the tournament.
