Jordanian actress Amal Al-Dabbas said that her life’s wish is to present a dramatic work that embodies the suffering of breast cancer patients. In her interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Dabbas confirmed that she suffered from the disease for 6 months, during which her hair fell out and her body ached because of the chemicals she was treating with.
At the beginning, Amal Al-Dabbas talked about the details of her latest new drama, “Galata 5”, which is scheduled to be shown within the Ramadan drama season for the year 2023. She said: “I started filming my viewers with the fifth part of the series (Galata), which is scheduled to be shown on (Roya) channel during The next Ramadan drama season, this year we will continue the story of last season, as the story of the series expanded and we began to discuss the problems of the Jordanian middle class with the Arab problems through the Syrian and Levantine families who came to Jordan. Al-Dabbas confirmed that she is also working on a new drama that recounts the history and story of the Jordanian city of Amman, saying, “The series deals with the story of the Jordanian city of Amman from the forties of the last century until 1990. Its initial form is that it will be shown in three seasons, each season 30 episodes.”
Amal revealed the role that she still hopes to play on the small screen, saying: “I hope to embody the life story of a woman who suffered from breast cancer, and during the role I present all ways to treat the disease, because I was once sick with this disease, and I suffered greatly from it, And I remained for 6 months stuck in life like someone driving a boat stuck in the ocean, and I lived 6 months in agony, my hair fell out and I was treated with chemicals, and had it not been for my faith in God Almighty, I might have collapsed because of what happened to me, so I invite all the women of the Arab world For periodic examination, because what saved me in my treatment journey is that I discovered my injury early.
Regarding her failure to break into the world of Egyptian drama, despite its popularity in Jordan and the Levant region, she says, “It is a great honor for any artist to participate in Egyptian drama, but so far I have not found work that satisfies me. Perhaps this matter would have been achieved one day through the late journalist Wajdi al-Hakim, who He was attending a dramatic work by the late musician Baligh Hamdi, and he saw in my appearance during a period of periods that I was close to the artist Warda Al-Jazaery, but unfortunately the work stopped, and he did not see the light.
The Jordanian artist expressed her happiness at being finally honored by the Sharm El-Sheikh International Festival for Youth Theater and awarded her the “Samiha Ayoub Honorary Shield.” One of the festivals closest to my heart is my love for the theater and also for the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, and for my constant support for youth. Our current role is to support these talents, and for 5 years I feel responsible in the festival and support it by presenting an award bearing my name to be awarded to the best artist.
Al-Dabbas indicated that her artistic ambition has not yet reached its final stage. And he says to me, “You speak with the tongue of our situation when you stand on the stage.”
Al-Dabbas praised the move to commercially show the Jordanian film “Daughters of Abd al-Rahman” in Egyptian theaters, stressing that it is “an important step for Jordanian cinema in the Arab world, so I thank the actress Saba Mubarak for her role in the development of Jordanian cinema.”
Al-Dabbas supported the idea of the presence of Jordanian works in the recent period on digital platforms such as “Netflix” and “Watch”, saying: “It is honorable and good to find Jordanian drama on famous and good platforms. It is wonderful that Jordanian drama keeps pace with the modern era and is present inside every Arab house.” In order for there to be a means of communication between the Arabs and the Jordanian society.
