Al-Fares for “Oil” and Al-Mousa for “Electricity and Renewable Energy”
The new Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah announced the formation of his first government, which includes 12 ministers. It is the 40th government in Kuwait’s political history, and the fourth in the era of Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who took office on September 29, 2020.
A decree was issued to form the government with the signature of Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who assumed most of the duties of the Emir late last year. Ahmed Al-Nawaf was appointed Minister of the Interior in the last government of Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, which submitted its resignation last April, 4 months after its formation. This is in anticipation of the opposition deputies presenting the book “non-cooperation” with the Prime Minister. On May 10, an order was issued accepting the resignation of the government and assigning it the urgent management of matters.
The new government did not witness major changes in the main ministries, as Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Sabah was reappointed as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Acting Minister of Interior, Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Sabah was reappointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Al-Faris as Minister of Oil with the assumption of the position of Deputy Prime Minister, and Abdel-Wahab Al-Rasheed was appointed as Minister of Finance, while the former Minister of Information, Abd al-Rahman al-Mutairi, returned to the Ministry of Information instead of Hamad Rouh al-Din.
