Luqman Selim’s family suspects a connection between his assassination and the port bombing
The French capital, Paris, will host the day after tomorrow (Monday), a five-way meeting in order to discuss the Lebanese presidential crisis, with the participation of representatives from Saudi Arabia, the United States, Egypt and Qatar, in the context of urging the Lebanese deputies to expedite the election of a president for the republic, taking into account the specifications that Lati is supposed to have. The page of the rift that afflicted Lebanon’s relations with the international community as a condition for helping it rise from its disastrous crises.
An Arab diplomatic source in Beirut told Asharq Al-Awsat that the meeting in Paris will not discuss the current names of presidential candidates, and that the statement it will issue at the end of its work will serve as a “road map” for the deputies to elect a president who will pave the way for moving Lebanon to a new stage.
The Arab diplomat, who preferred not to be named, pointed out that the obligatory path to saving Lebanon is the election of a president who would be acceptable to the Arabs and internationally. He said that the final statement would be a copy of the Arab and international positions that were issued in recent months, by defining the specifications of the future president.
On the other hand, the family of researcher and political activist Luqman Selim commemorated the second anniversary of his assassination, with a meeting that included diplomats, politicians, and intellectuals at the family’s home in the southern suburbs of Beirut. On this occasion, the United Nations called for an international fact-finding mission to consider the possibility of a link between the assassination of Salim, who was a staunch opponent of Hezbollah, and the horrific Beirut port explosion.
His German-Lebanese wife, Monica Borgmann, said during the gathering: “We would like a fact-finding mission to look into the port explosion, as well as the 3 assassinations that followed and may be linked to it.”
