5 death sentences and 12 arrested for “dealing with abroad”
The Iranian regime admitted yesterday (Tuesday) that women constitute 10 percent of those arrested for the protests taking place in the country since the killing of Mahsa Amini after she was arrested by the “morality police” last September because of her hijab, while most Iranian cities continued their open strike, which began on Monday and continues until today.
“Some foreign media mention the names of women as victims in the recent riots…but it should be said that 90 percent of the detainees are men and 10 percent are Only women.” On the subject of the hijab, she replied: “In fact, no country enjoys absolute freedom in the matter of wearing clothes.”
On the other hand, the imam of Juma Zahedan, the most prominent (Sunni) cleric in Iran, Abd al-Hamid Ismail Zahi, said, “The news of sexual assault on female prisoners with the intent of humiliation, oppression, and coercion of confessions was reflected in the media, and the accounts of some prisoners confirm this.”
In the judicial context, the Iranian authorities sentenced to death 5 people after they were convicted of involvement in the killing of a member of the “Basij” during the protests sweeping the country. The spokesman for the judiciary, Masoud Staishi, said in a press conference yesterday, Tuesday, that long prison sentences were issued against 11 other people, including 3 children, in connection with the killing of Ruhollah Ajamian. The Revolutionary Guard announced the arrest of 12 people on charges of belonging to a “group of saboteurs” linked to European countries.
“The members of this network, led by counter-revolutionary agents living in Germany and the Netherlands, tried to obtain weapons, and they intend (…) to carry out activities aimed at national security,” he said in a statement reported by “Tasnim” agency.
