Yanomami woman dies after being hospitalized with severe malnutrition

The indigenous Rodenia Yanomami, 33 years old, died in the last sixth fair (27) at the Hospital Geral de Roraima, in Boa Vista, after being admitted with symptoms of severe malnutrition and wasting away due to dehydration and intestinal inflammation, second described in the declaration of death to which CNN I have access.

The indigenous people had already passed through two health units, in the community of Cataroa and in the Basic Health Unit of Surucucu, but they did not meet ideal conditions for care. When she went to the hospital, or quadro had already gotten worse, secondly a relative of the victim.

The children of Rodenia, who will also pass through the same health units, are helped and are still interned at the Hospital das Crianças de Boa Vista.

A CNN I spoke with Junior Hekurari, president of the URIHI – Yanomami Association, who confirmed the death of the indigenous and five other people in recent days, in the communities of Komatha and Aracaca. Among the victims is an indigenous leader and a nine-year-old girl.

“Ontem (27) received information that there were five (indigenous) dead in two communities close to the prospectors’ camp. Three indigenous people, all young, who were with the foram exhausted and deram positive did not test for malaria. They are admitted to the Surucucu UBS undergoing treatment, but they are very failing”, he explains.

Hekurari explains that the bodies were found in an area of ​​difficult access and that it was only possible to locate with helicopter support.
