O medo dos impostos seems to have spoiled many Brazilians from international purchases. In April, platforms such as Aliexpress, Shein and Shopee will sell 25% less to Brazil compared to March. In money, the invoice of the letter of credit decreased by R$ 1.2 billion, no more than the taxation of foreign purchases, occupied part of the economic news.
Data from the Central Bank disclosed in this sixth fair (26) show that, in April, international purchases of small value amounted to US$ 700.9 million, 25.3% less than the invoice paid in March. In comparison with April of the previous year, it remains at 20.1%.
It is true that, in the midst of the tax discussion, the large platforms will adopt some measures such as encouraging purchases from Brazilian sellers, installed in the national territory, to avoid any dor de cabeça alfandegária.
But the data from BC show that, indeed, the account payment to these platforms decreased by US$ 237 million. Converted to reais, the value is equivalent to R$ 1.18 billion less than the bill of mail and packages in the center of the Post Office in Curitiba.
And, likewise, the government managed – only less temporarily – to reduce a little or the pace of purchases. Sadness two Asian vendors, congratulations two Brazilian varejistas.
60% tax
It is easy to understand or fear of some customers. The import tax for international purchases of small value is 60%. Ou seja, if an order is R$ 100, the tax due will be R$ 60. Many times, the tax can cancel two Asian sellers at a price advantage.
Currently, the Brazilian government talks amicably with the big platforms to alter the process of entering the parcels in Brazil. The Federal Revenue wants details of the purchases before customs clearance. For isso, it negotiates a new protocol with the giants Aliexpress, Shein and Shopee.
The idea is to have more detailed information about each order. Currently, only about 2% of the two packages sent by the Post Office have a detailed declaration sent to the Federal Revenue.
The European Union signed this type of agreement and, in many cases, the European taxes are paid by customers at the time of purchase, directly on the Asian platform.
In a truck, the Treasury of Brazil promises that purchases with an advance payment tax will arrive faster at home because they will pass through the “green channel” of Receita.
